Landmark Missoula eatery shutting down

KPAX TV photo(MISSOULA)- No more burgers, shakes or famous Philly sandwiches as Del's Place Diner announces it will close in a week.

KPAX TV reports the owners decided the business just wasn't working anymore after 26-years of operation downtown.

Owner Del Hewlett says they kept hoping for the economy to turn around, but he says this summer has been the slowest of the last three or four years, a tough development when summer is the diner's best season. Hewlett says he had to "bite the bullet" and decide to close.

Hewlett says business has been slow the past five years, and the new restaurants and fast food businesses on North Reserve have made for tough competition.

The diner will close on July 20th.
