4th was "fast and furious" for Missoula firefighters

KPAX TV photo by Irina Cates(MISSOULA)- What started out as a quiet night for Missoula area firefighters and police accelerated as the evening of the 4th wore on. But it appears the valley escaped without any major incidents.

KPAX TV reports Missoula Police and Fire dispatchers were swamped with calls as people complained about their neighbors violating the rules prohibiting fireworks from being ignited within the Missoula city limits.

With just two police officers and two firefighters assigned to fireworks patrol, the teams quickly got behind as the complaints poured in. The final total for the night was 140-calls. And the officers say many people they contacted were surprised to learn the fireworks ban was in effect.
