Tower Pizza last day next week

Tower Pizza Facebook picture(MISSOULA)- Missoula's popular Tower Pizza will close it's doors after the close of business on February 25th.

The pizzeria, which has been a landmark on South Reserve since the early 1970s had announced it was closing for good earlier this month following the company's recent purchase. The news has generated a rush of business for the restaurant as Missoulians scramble for a final slice of pie.

Now, Tower's operators have announced on Facebook that "sadly the day is almost here" and the restaurant will close for good on Saturday the 25th. Customers are being invited to "drink and eat until the beer is gone at 2 a.m."

Missoula Cabella's opens next summer

(SIDNEY, NE)- Cabella's Incorporated says it will open its new store in Missoula this coming summer.

Developers and Missoula officials had already confirmed Cabella's would be part of a major redevelopment of the old Kmart shopping center on South Brooks, but today's announcement made that official. The development is being called "South Crossing."

Crews are currently demolishing the old Kmart and construction on the new store will begin this fall with a target opening date of next summer. Cabella's expects to employ 90 full-time, part-time and seasonal workers, with most coming from the Missoula area.

The new store is a Cabell's Outpost, which is much smaller than the massive regional stores like the one in Post Falls, Idaho. This store will measure 42,000 square feet but will have the same "rugged outdoor look" that's become the company's trademark for its retail outlets. The Outpost stores are usually located in markets with less than 250,000 people, such as Missoula and the new store in Kalispell.

Cabella's opened its first Montana store in Billings in 2009.

In addition to merchandise in the store, the Cabella's Outpost will also give customers a chance to place orders online and pick them up locally.

Homecoming helps downtown business

KPAX TV photo(MISSOULA)- Downtown Missoula businesses, and especially those along the "Hip Strip" on Higgins, say Saturday's University of Montana Homecoming can give their businesses a big shot in the arm.

Thousands of people flocked to the downtown area this weekend for the parade. Plus the other events generate good foot traffic, especially to local restaurants, throughout a period of several days.

KPAX TV reports Wordon's Market was one of those reaping the benefit of all that Grizzly pride, opening at 7:30 Saturday morning for coffee drinkers, and even selling its first keg at 8 a.m. Manager Allan Neilsen said business had been "great".

Landmark Missoula eatery shutting down

KPAX TV photo(MISSOULA)- No more burgers, shakes or famous Philly sandwiches as Del's Place Diner announces it will close in a week.

KPAX TV reports the owners decided the business just wasn't working anymore after 26-years of operation downtown.

Owner Del Hewlett says they kept hoping for the economy to turn around, but he says this summer has been the slowest of the last three or four years, a tough development when summer is the diner's best season. Hewlett says he had to "bite the bullet" and decide to close.

Hewlett says business has been slow the past five years, and the new restaurants and fast food businesses on North Reserve have made for tough competition.

The diner will close on July 20th.
