Latest poaching case involves moose in the Little Belt Mts

Two calves standby dead cow moose shot by poachers in late October- FWP photo(GREAT FALLS)- The latest in a rash of poaching cases this fall has Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks hoping a tip will help them find whoever shot and killed a cow moose in the Little Belt Mountains.

FWP reports the poaching happened on October 25th on Belt Park Road, which is at the south end of the range. FWP wardens say someone simply shot the cow, and when they found the kill two young calves were still standing nearby.

Anyone with information can help catch the poachers by calling 1-800-TIP-MONT. That allows informants to remain anonymous and rewards are offered.

The poaching comes after incidents where elk were killed near Whitehall and there have been several cases of deer and elk being poached in Western Montana.

More poaching problems in Western MT

(MISSOULA)- Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks game wardens are after more deer poachers, this time looking for tips to solve two poaching cases that happened over Father’s Day weekend.

FWP says one poaching incident happened in the East Fork of the Bitterroot and the other in the Fish Creek drainage west of Missoula.

In the Bitterroot case, FWP game warden Lou Royce says a buck mule deer was shot and abandoned in the trophy mule deer Hunting District 270 near Blacktail Point. Royce suspects the deer was killed sometime between late Friday and early Saturday morning.

On Fish Creek, warden Justin Singleterry reported a white-tailed buck was found shot and left behind just off Fish Creek Road one mile south of the Burdett Creek Trailhead on private property.

FWP is hoping someone has information that can help them find and prosecute the poachers in both cases.

Anyone with information on either incident is encouraged to call 1-800-TIP-MONT (1-800-847-6668).  Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 for providing information that leads to a conviction.  The Ravalli County Fish and Wildlife Association is also offering a $500 reward for information that leads to a conviction on the Bitterroot case.

The incidents are the latest in a string of poaching cases FWP has been investigating in Western Montana since last fall.
