Suspect arrested in Helena motel murder

(HELENA)- Authorities say they've arrested the man suspected of shooting another man in the parking lot of a Helena motel early Wednesday. 

Helena Police report 41-year old Brandon LeClair was later arrested on a warrant for homicide in Boulder. 

Detectives say LeClair was spotted walking near the Motel 6 on North Oregon Street just before 1 a.m. Wednesday with blood on his hands. When police arrived on scene they found a 31-year old Butte man who'd been shot in the parking lot. Efforts to save his life weren't successful. 

There's been no immediate word on a motive for the shooting, although it may have resulted from a fight. 


Armed man arrested after police surround Helena home

(HELENA)- A Helena man is expected in court Monday to face weapons charges after police surrounded his home for several hours, finally entering the apartment and finding the man in bed.

KXLH reports the incident started around 3:30 a.m. when police were called to the apartments by a a woman who said he 29-year old boyfriend had fired a shot in her direction with a .45 caliber handgun. 

Police officers, along with a SWAT team surrounded the apartment, but police say they aren't sure whether the man even knew law enforcement was there. After about four hours, police decided to set off a "flash bang" to distract the man, and entered the house where they found him in a bedroom. He was taken into custody without anyone being hurt.
