Missoula Police still investigating transient's death

(MISSOULA)- An autopsy is completed, but Missoula authorities still aren't sure what led to the death of a 53-year old transient, who's body was found outside a Missoula hospital over the weekend. 

The Missoula County Coroner completed an autopsy yesterday, releasing the identity of the victim as Ruth Castro of Seattle, who had reportedly been in the Missoula area for about a month. 

Castro's body was found outside St. Patrick Hospital and investigators say there was blood at the scene. But the cause of death is undetermined and remains under investigation. 


Washington fugitive caught after high speed chase

(MISSOULA)- A 42-year old fugitive from Washington was apprehended following a long high speed chase out of Missoula last night.

KGVO Radio reports John Fischer first drew the attention of Missoula Police on West Broadway, and took off to the east after officers tried to stop him. The chase went through East Missoula and east all the way to Clearwater Junction, where Missoula County Sheriff's deputies were finally able to disable Fischer's car with "stop sticks" thrown across the highway to puncture his tires. 

Fischer was wanted on several charges, including criminal endangerment because of his past driving. 

It was the second time in a month Missoula officers started a pursuit that extended outside the city. 


Investigation continues, no arrest in Missoula club shooting

(MISSOULA)- Missoula detectives are continuing to investigate Monday's fatal shooting outside a strip club, but say they've made no arrests in the case at this point. 

Missoula Police say a 23-year old man was killed after a fight broke out shortly after 1 a.m. outside the Fox Club in the 2000 block of Ernest Avenue. 

Witnesses told police the victim and another 27-year old man were fighting, with one man reaching through the window of a vehicle to assault the other, when the 27-year old fired the fatal shot, hitting the younger man in the chest. He died later at the hospital. 

The shooter immediately surrendered his gun to police and detectives say he's been cooperating with the investigation. 


Exchange student killed in Missoula shooting 

(MISSOULA)- Authorities are now saying it was a Missoula exchange student that was shot and killed when he was found in a homeowner's garage early Sunday morning. 

Missoula County Public School officials have identified the shooting victim as Diren Dede of Hamburg, Germany. He'd been attending classes as a Junior at Big Sky High School. 

Detectives say the shooting happened just after midnight when the 29-year old resident thought he heard an alarm and found the boy inside his garage. He was fatally injured by the gunshot and died soon after police had responded to the home on Deer Canyon Court.

Missoula standoff drags on into the evening

KPAX TV photo(MISSOULA)- Missoula Police and SWAT teams spent hours Monday in a stand-off with a man who holed up in a trailer on the city's north side. 

The standoff started when officers were dispatched to the report of an assault at a different location. At one point in the afternoon, police say a single shot was fired. Officers have been in touch with the man, who also has a woman inside the trailer. Fresh personnel from Missoula County and other agencies was brought in later in the evening for relief. 

No one had been injured and negotiators continued to use several approaches to try and talk the man into surrendering.
