Idaho kidnapping suspect facing more charges in North Dakota

Walck appeared in a Bismarck courtroom Thursday- Bismarck Tribune photo(BISMARCK, ND)- The man who shot at an Idaho state trooper before kidnapping a woman and taking her all the way to Glendive is going to face additional charges for more crimes in North Dakota.

57-year old Mitchell Lee Walck was arrested Wednesday after he threatened a trucker with a gun in Bismarck. A week ago, Walck's crime spree began in Northern Idaho, where he took off from a traffic stop. He shot at the trooper during the pursuit and then holed up in a Rathdrum house. He kidnapped an elderly woman and headed east, eventually releasing her in Glendive.

Walck showed up in Bismarck when he climbed into the sleeper cab of a semi, threatening the driver with a gun. He ran off, but was followed by a citizen who helped police find Walck hiding under a tree.

The Bismarck Tribune reports Walck appeared in court Thursday and was charged with terrorizing, unlawful entry o the truck, possession of stolen property and being a felon with a gun.

Walck's last known address was Thompson Falls. He'd been in trouble before, serving prison time for a standoff with Powell County deputies in 2001.

Man convicted in 2001 Drummond standoff wanted for assault, kidnapping

MT Dept of Corrections photo(SPOKANE)- Law enforcement agencies throughout the region are on the lookout for a 57-year old man who fired at an Idaho state trooper Friday night, then kidnapped a woman, eventually releasing her in Glendive.

And authorities are worried Mitchell L. Walck already has a violent history, including a standoff with Powell County deputies more than a decade ago.

The Spokane Spokesman-Review reports Walck drove off from a traffic stop near Spirit Lake, in Kootenai County Friday night. Authorities chased Walck's truck for half-an-hour, eventually escaping after running into the woods, firing a shot at a pursuing trooper during the chase. The officer wasn't hit.

Now, authorities say Walck apparently hid in a nearby home, stealing two rifles and forcing a 62-year old Rathdrum woman to drive him out of the area in her car Saturday morning. She was later released unharmed in Glendive.

Walck remains on the run and is described as armed and dangerous. He's described as 5'10" tall, weighing around 170-pounds with brown eyes, and the last time he was seen was wearing jeans, two tone cowboy boots with a blue or black jacket. Police say he may have shaved his beard and dyed his hair and mustache black as a disguise.

Walck was convicted of a 2001 standoff with Powell County deputies at an abandoned ranch near Drummond.
